Can Natural Gas Vehicles End Depedence on Foreign Oil?

Jeff Maxwell is one of a growing number of Edmond residents driving a compressed natural gas vehicle, and he couldn’t be happier.

Maxwell bought his NGV Civic at Bob Howard Honda in Edmond as part of an incentive program offered by his employer, Chesapeake Energy Corp. “You can’t tell the difference between a regular Honda and this one, inside or out,” says Maxwell. “It does have a smaller trunk because of the size of the tank, but you only lose about a foot of space.” Maxwell adds, “There’s still plenty of room for my golf clubs!”

Bob Howard’s New Car Manager, Bob Small, says his dealership has sold between 12 and 15 NGVs over the last year. While production is limited, he tries to keep some in stock. “People come in frequently to look at them,” says Small. “Most people are primarily interested because of cost effectiveness.” According to Maxwell, fueling his Civic for a commute of about 60 miles per day costs only $15 a month.
